McCullough scores 1,000th point in Heartbreaker against Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa.- Immaculata dropped a heart breaking 97-94 loss to Cabrini in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon. Keith Blassingale scored his 43rd point of the game on a three pointer with only one second left to sink the Mighty Macs (9-16,4-8).

Brandon McCullough scored 10 points in the first half to reach the 1,000-point mark in his career. McCullough joins teammate Jordan Ambrose as the seventh member of the exclusive club. McCullough went on to score a team-high 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field. Tyler Tillery had a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds while Jordan Ambrose added 21 points.

The loss sent Immaculata to the fifth-seed in the Atlantic East Playoffs but the Mighty Macs will have a quick chance to erase Saturday's loss with another matchup against Cabrini next week.

With playoff implications on the line, both teams sensed the importance and traded baskets early on. Tillery made a layup to even the score up at eight with 15:22 left in the first half.

Cabrini was the first team to go on a run and went on a quick 10-2 spurt over two minutes to lead 18-10 at the 13-minute mark. Keith Blassingale sparked the run for the Cavaliers and scored seven of the 10 points during the spurt.

The Macs answered with a 7 unanswered points of their own following a pair of layups and a three by Jordan Ambrose to cut the deficit to one with 11:42 left.

Just after the eight-minute mark, Cabrini was able to build its biggest lead of the first half at 10 and led 29-19. The Mighty Macs would claw back and never let the lead inch into double figures as the two teams traded baskets for the end of the half for a 43-39 lead in favor of Cabrini at the half.

Cabrini shot 49-percent from the field in the first half and limited the Macs to 3-of-13 from the long distance to hold a four-point lead at intermission.

Immaculata came out of the locker room blazing from the field, and used an 11-2 run to get its first lead of the game. The Mighty Macs led 50-45 following a free-throw by Steven Dao with 17:50 left to play.

Blassingale tried his best to help Cabrini regain the lead, but the Mighty Macs continued to answer his baskets. Tim Moore provided a spark off the bench and helped Immaculata build its biggest lead of the game. He scored or assisted on seven straight points as the Mighty Macs led 78-68 with 8:44 remaining in the game.

Cabrini was able to regain the lead at 86-85 when Ryan Byars made a basket. The two teams seesawed back and forth when Tim Moore connected on a pair of free throws and the Mighty Macs led 91-90 with just under two minutes left.

Voshon Mack gave the Cavaliers a two-point lead with 39 seconds left when he made a layup, forcing the Mighty Macs to make a basket to extend the game. Ambrose provided the answer and hit a jumper in the middle of the lane to tie the game up at 94 with 24 seconds left.

Blassingale delivered the dagger three with just over one second remaining off tough defense from the Macs. Both teams shot over 50-percent from the field with the Cavaliers holding a slight advantage (54-51). The Cavaliers held a free throw shooting disparity and made 15-of-24 attempts while Immaculata only made it to the line 12 times (9-of-12).

 Immaculata will now focus on the Atlantic East Playoffs and will look to avenge its 0-2 regular season record against Cabrini.
