Men's Volleyball Falls to Wilkes in Home-Opener

IMMACULATA, Pa.- Seeking to rebound following a season-opening loss at the hands of Kings on Wednesday evening, the Immaculata men's volleyball team returned home to face Wilkes in its 2020 home-opener. Immaculata battled throughout the evening but Wilkes emerged victorious by a final of 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-18).

In the first set, Immaculata and Wilkes traded points throughout the opening 10 points for each side, however, it was a mid-set run by Wilkes, which proved to be the difference maker as the Colonels captured the set by a final of 25-14.

During the second set, Wilkes opened on a 4-0 run, which prompted an early Immaculata timeout. Following this timeout, Wilkes continued its hot start to the match to jump out to a 24-7 second set lead. Immaculata battled back scoring five unanswered points to trim the deficit to 24-12 before Wilkes registered the final kill to win the second set by a final of 25-12.

In the third set, the Colonels opened play with a 7-2 run, which would prove vital in the later stages of the final set as the Macs battled back into the set cutting the deficit to as few as four (21-17). From this point, Wilkes closed out the match with a 4-1 run to win the third set 25-18 and win the match by a final of 3-0.

Garrett Pepper ended the match with a team-high three kills while also leading the way in digs (four) combined with a pair of blocks and five assists. Steven Dao ended the evening with a team-high three blocks while Donte Ramos led the way in assists with five helpers of his own in the setback.

For Wilkes, Zach Evans led the team in kills with five kills while Zach Shay posted a team-high 25 helpers in the victory.
