Macs Falter in Second Half to Wesley in Atlantic East Action

DOVER, Del. – The Immaculata University men's lacrosse team tallied four goals in the second quarter to get within one score of Wesley heading into halftime, but the Mighty Macs were unable to take over in the second half, falling to the Wolverines in Atlantic East Conference action, 11-7. Steve Long recorded a hat trick with a team-high three goals in the effort, while Bobby Bausman, Ethan Johnson, Cole Metzger and James Barretta each added single tallies.
 
Goalie Denton States made seven saves between the pipes for the Macs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Macs were held scoreless in the opening quarter of Saturday's contest, allowing Wesley to take a 4-0 lead by the end of the first.
-Immaculata battled back in the early stages of the second quarter with three-straight scores to cut the deficit to one – one each from Long, Metzger and a man-up score from Bausman. The two sides traded tallies in the final three minutes of the half as Wesley took a 5-4 lead into the break.
-Barretta found the back of the net 51 seconds into the second half to draw the Macs even with Wesley at five for the first time on the afternoon, before Long recorded back-to-back goals within 11 seconds of each other to give IU its first lead of the day at 7-6.
-Long's third quarter score at the 9:06 mark of the period proved to be the final one for the Macs in the second half, as Welsey kept IU off the board for the remainder of the third quarter and the entirety of the fourth while netting five unanswered goals to take the 11-7 win.
 
TEAM COMPARISON

-The Macs outshot the Wolverines on the afternoon, 43-35.
-Wesley forced IU into 23 turnovers, opposite their final total of 21.
-The Macs converted on 12 of their 15 clear opportunities.
-Immaculata won 14 of the 20 faceoffs on the day. Bobby Bausman was 11-for-17  and James Barretta was a perfect 3-for-3
-Each side netted only one goal on man-up opportunities.
