Baseball Drops a Pair to Marymount in Atlantic East Regular Season Finale

IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Immaculata University baseball team honored its six seniors prior to its final Atlantic East Conference home doubleheader Saturday afternoon, but dropped both ends of the twinbill 11-4 and 15-14. Richard Fontanillas hit his fourth home run of the season in part of a three-hit effort game two's offensive outburst, while Joey Sacco also logged three hits and Corey Pezak doubled twice.

The Mighty Macs finish their conference slate with a 6-6 mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Macs got on the board first in the opening inning when Tom Prato scored on a balk and Cameron Delisle followed with a run-scoring ground out to make it a two-run lead. Marymount answered in the top of the third on a two-run homer to tie the contest before taking its first lead in the fourth on a pair of run-scoring singles.
-Zach Van Meter's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth cut the deficit to one, but the Saints scored four in the fifth and two more in the sixth while holding the Macs to one run the rest of the way to take game one, 11-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Macs got the offense going early in game two, striking for seven runs in the first two innings to take a commanding lead. Pezak lined an RBI double and Delisle drove in another with a single to center in the first before Sacco, Prato and Van Meter all drove in runs in the second as part of a five-run frame.
-Marymount began to claw its way back into the game with a four-run third, but Tyler Kmiec kept adding to the lead with a two-run single in the home half before Fontanillas ripped a two-run homer in the fourth to extend the IU lead to 11-4.
-Despite tacking on two more in the sixth on a Sacco two-run single, Marymount also posted a four-run frame in the top half of the inning before striking for five runs in the ninth to come away with the 15-14 victory and series sweep.
