SHIPPNSBURG, Pa.- With just a week before playoffs, the Mighty Macs (23-9-2, 5-3) travelled to Wesley (16-18, 3-5) for an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader, and after winning the first game 2-1, the Macs fell in the nightcap, 4-1.
Â
In the opener, senior
Jessica Bormann went the distance for her ninth win of the season and sophomore
Keani Hindle hit a go-ahead solo home run in the sixth to lift IU to victory.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
-The Mighty Macs stranded a pair of runners in the first, and the Wolverines took advantage with an RBI single in the first to take a 1-0 victory
-IU didn't stay down long as Bormann got herself into scoring position and came around to score on a single off the bat of junior
Emily Mesey to tie the game in the top of the second
-Bormann then did a great job of keeping Wesley off the board, wiggling out of trouble in the second, fourth and fifth innings, around a 1-2-3 third to keep the game tied at 1-1
-In the top of the sixth, Hindle led off with a home run to left field, her team leading ninth of the season, to put IU on top 2-1
-Bormann worked around a pair of runners in the sixth, and Wesley then mounted a rally in the seventh as they had runners on second and third with one out. Bormann then induced a groundball to third base, and the throw went to first to get the first out, and junior
Michaela Petito then rifled a throw home to cut down the tying run and end the game
