IMMACULATA, Pa.-The IU softball team (25-9-2, 7-3) wrapped up the 2019 regular season on Tuesday afternoon with a big doubleheader sweep of Cabrini (19-15, 5-5) to lock up the number two seed in this weekend's Atlantic East Conference pool play. Prior to the game, the Mighty Macs honored senior
Jessica Bormann, junior
Desiree Dinko, and junior
Ashley Rey in their final regular season game at the IU Softball Field.
The Macs won game one, 3-0, behind a complete game, three-hit shutout by Bormann, and they finished it off with a 6-1 victory in game two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
-Bormann was fantastic to start the game, retiring the side in order in the first four innings, and retiring the first 14 hitters in a row total before allowing a two-out single in the fifth inning
-The Mighty Macs took advantage immediately in the first half as junior
Abigail Carter singled, stole second, and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. After a pop out, sophomore
Keani Hindle smoked an RBI double to left-center for a 1-0 lead
-The Macs had a couple chances throughout the day, but didn't add on to their lead until the sixth. Hindle walked and stole second with two outs, and junior
Michaela Petito stroked an RBI double to left center. Bormann then helped her own cause with a double to left to score another run and give her a 3-0 lead
-The Cavaliers brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but a lineout ended it

GAME 2
-Petito got the start in the game two and the Cavs struck first with a run in the top of the first, but that would turn out to be their only run of the day
-The Macs responded as Rey singled to right and Hindle had another double to score Rey to tie it 1-1
-IU added in the third as Rey tripled to right to score Carter, who also tripled, and Hindle scored Rey with an RBI single to center field and the Macs led 3-1
-IU put it away in the fifth as junior
Laura DiLucia tripled to right field to score junior
Tori Fortuna, and Petito provided the final big hit with a two-run single to left-center and the lead had ballooned to 6-1

Renee DeAngelis tossed two innings of scoreless relief to close it out

UP NEXT
The Mighty Macs will open the Atlantic East postseason as the number two seed on Friday in a three-team, double-elimination tournament. They will play the No. 5 seed at 12 p.m., the No. 5 and the No. 3 seed will play at 2 p.m., and the Macs will then take on the No. 3 seed at 4 p.m. The winner of this pod will play the winner of the other pod in the Atlantic East Championship the following weekend.
