IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Mighty Mac pitching staff carried the day for the Macs as they swept away Washington College, 6-1 and 3-1, to push their record to 22-8-2.

Kayla Sponsel hit a two-run homer, junior
Abigail Carter had three hits, and a trio of Mighty Macs combined for a solid effort in the circle for the win. In game two, the Macs scored single runs in the first, third, and seventh innings, and held the Shorewomen offense to three hits to complete the sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
-Junior
Michaela Petito got the start and allowed a walk in the first, a 1-2-3 second, and a single in the third, but the Macs had grabbed the lead in the second
-Petito reach on an error to lead off the frame, and with two outs, Sponsel skied a two-run homer to left field for a 2-0 lead
-The Shorewomen strung together four hits in the fourth to cut the deficit in half, but Petito escaped any further trouble before giving way to sophomore
Renee DeAngelis
-Junior
Abigail Carter doubled to lead off the third, but was stranded, however, she led off the fifth with a single, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI double to right by sophomore
Keani Hindle as IU now led 3-1
-DeAngelis faced seven hitters in her two innings of work with only one reaching by infield single
-In the sixth, the Macs added some insurance as they loaded the bases on the strength of a hit batter and singles by junior
Emily Mesey and Carter, and Sponsel scored on a wild pitch to push the edge to 4-1. A big two-run single by freshman
Katy Newton put the game out of reach
-Senior
Jessica Bormann came on in relief in the seventh and closed out the victory

-Washington College got on the board first with a solo home run in the top of the first against freshman
Sarah Guido, but the Macs wasted no time getting on the board in their half of the first
-Carter continued her great play from game one by leading off with a single, advancing to second on a passed ball, and to third on a groundout. Junior
Ashley Rey then hit a single up the middle to tie the game. Two more walks loaded the bases with one out, but a strikeout and fly out ended the first with it knotted at 1
-Guido navigated the next three frames without allowing a run, and the Macs took the lead in the bottom of the third as junior
Sydney Sturgill singled up the middle to bring home Hindle, who singled to lead off the inning, to put the Macs up, 2-1
-Guido gave way to sophomore
Emma Bischoff in relief in the fifth after four one
