IMMACULATA, Pa. - Layne Kennedy netted five goals to lead the Immaculata University women's lacrosse team to a 16-11, non-conference victory over Rutgers-Camden Tuesday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium, the fourth of which was the 178th for her career to become the Macs' all-time, program leader in just her third season. Kennedy's performance was her fourth game this season with at least five scores and second-straight after netting seven at Gwynedd Mercy Saturday.
Maura Murray tallied four goals and assisted on four others for a team-high eight points in the effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Kennedy and
Bailey Krewson netted consecutive goals in the first four minutes to give the Macs an early advantage. Rutgers-Camden batted back to tie the contest at four at the 15:03 mark of the first half.
-The Macs responded by netting three-straight scores - one each from Kennedy,
Maddy Terry and
Anna DiDonato - to regain a three-goal lead before taking a 9-6 advantage into halftime.
-IU would go on to lead for the rest of the game, as Murray netted her third and fourth tallies of the afternoon before
Kayla Cadden capped off the win with her second score with just over a minute remaining.
-At the 16:53 mark of the second half, Kennedy followed up a missed shot with a ground ball pickup and fired at the net immediately, beating the goalie in the lower right corner for the record-breaking, 178th career goal.
TEAM COMPARISON
-The Macs outshot the Scarlet Raptors on the afternoon, 42-30.
-Immaculata forced Rutgers-Camden into 19 turnovers, 12 in the first half alone.
