Macs Explode for 18 Runs in Midweek Rout of Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Immaculata University baseball team posted 18 runs on 19 hits and scored in all but one inning Tuesday afternoon at Elizabethtown, taking down the Blue Jays 18-8 in non-conference action. Freshman Joey Sacco finished the day a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate out of the leadoff spot with a double and two runs driven in, while senior Kyle Hannon and junior Zach Van Meter each recorded three-hit days.

Sophomore Gabe Hollenbach notched his third win on the mound with five effective innings in his start - totaling three strikeouts - before freshman Anthony Yarson finished it off with two innings of two-run ball in relief.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Macs struck for a first-inning run after loading the bases with no outs, allowing Cameron Delisle to lift a sacrifice fly to left to plate Sacco with the game's first run. IU then broke out for three in the second on a Sacco squeeze play before Stephen Trendler belted a two-out, two-run home run to left - his first of the season - to give the Macs a four-run advantage.
-Elizabethtown got on the board in the home half of the second via a solo home run, but Immaculata broke the game open with another three-spot in the top of the third. Hannon ripped a two-run double to left before Van Meter sent one back through the middle to score Connor Blesi who was hit by a pitch earlier in the frame.
-After the Macs put up a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth, the Blue Jays made things interesting by getting within three in the bottom of the sixth, but Domenic Dellabarba drove a two-run double down the right field line in the seventh before Richard Fontanillas crossed the plate on a wild pitch, extending the IU lead back out to five at 12-7.
-Immaculata put the game completely out of reach in the top of the eighth with a six-run frame, as Tom Prato's walk forced in a run before Blesi drove in another with a single to left. The Macs took advantage of six Elizabethtown errors on the day to cruise to the 18-8 victory.
