SCRANTON, Pa - The Immaculata University baseball team picked up its first-ever Atlantic East Conference victories to extend its win streak to eight in a doubleheader sweep of Marywood Sunday by final scores of 7-0 and 5-4. Senior
Billy Manzo twirled a complete-game, two-hit shutout in game one before
Cameron Delisle and
Connor Blesi launched back-to-back home runs in the top of the eighth to lift the Macs to the the game two victory.
Greg Grandelli and
Zach Smiley combined for six innings of one-run ball in game two of the doubleheader to complete the sweep, as Grandelii picked up his third win of the season while Smiley converted his third save in the effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Immaculata 7, Marywood 0
-The Macs were quick to break the game wide open in Sunday's opener, striking for six runs in the top half of the first inning.
Joey Sacco drew a leadoff walk and
Tyler Kmiec singled to left before both were moved into scoring position by
Richard Fontanillas.
Tom Prato plated Sacco with the game's first run on a goundout to short before
Cameron Delisle doubled to center to plate Kmiec. Following consecutive free passes to
Corey Pezak and
Domenic Dellabarba,
Kyle Hannon reached on an error to bring in a run before
Zach Van Meter cleared the bases with a three-run double to left.
-Senior starter
Billy Manzo turned in his best start of the season, retiring 15 of the first 16 batters he faced including six strikeouts to keep the Pacers in check. Manzo did not allow a hit until the fourth inning en route to his third win of the season - the Macs' first in the Atlantic East Conference.
-The Macs added their seventh run of the opener when Prato lined a one-out single to right to score Fontanillas who reached on a throwing error to start the frame.

Gabe Hollenbach was efficient in his third start of the season, setting down the first six batters he faced and stranding a runner at third in the third inning with his third strikeout of his outing.
-The IU offense was held in check through the first four frames, allowing Marywood to take a three-run lead after four.
-The Macs cut into the Pacer lead in the top of the sixth when Kmiec scored on a wild pitch after leading off the inning on a single to right.
-Following a scoreless fifth, sixth and seventh from Grandelli in relief, Kmiec cut the Pacer lead to one with a leadoff homer to left in the top of the eighth before Fontanillas singled to left and was sacrificed to second by Prato. Delisle followed with a two-run shot to left - his first of the season - to give the Macs their first lead of game two before
Connor Blesi launched a solo home run to center to extend the lead to 5-3.
-After Marywood cut the lead to one in the home half of the eighth,
Zach Smiley came on to record the final five outs of the game for his third save of the season, completing the Atlantic East sweep with a pair of strikeouts.
