Petito, Hindle Help Macs Earn Split At Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa.- The Mighty Macs (8-2) returned from a 7-1 trip to South Carolina to face Haverford on the road on Tuesday afternoon, and they earned a split with the Fords.

In the first game, the Mighty Mac offense couldn't get going as they trailed the whole time in a 6-1 defeat.  In game two, sophomore Keani Hindle blasted her first home run of the season and junior Michaela Petito tossed her second complete game of the season to split the day's action, 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
-The Macs went down in order in the top of the first and the Fords wasted no time taking the lead as a two-run home run with one out made it 2-0
-The score held until the top of the third when junior Kayla Sponsel led off with a double and would come around to score on an error to cut the deficit to 2-1
-The Fords halted the IU momentum with a two-run double in their half to push the deficit to 4-1
-The Macs had a couple runners reach in the fourth, but were unable to generate much else the rest of the way
-Haverford added two more in the sixth to reach 6-1

-In the top of the fourth, junior Ashley Rey reached after a dropped third strike punch out and Hindle took advantage by blasting a ball over the centerfield fence and putting the Macs up 2-1
-Petito set the Fords down in order and the Macs added to their lead in the top of the fifth as junior Abigail Carter walked and freshman Katy Newton singled to put two on with one out.  They advanced a base on a wild pitch and Rey brought home Carter with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-1
