Macs Rack up 16 Runs to Take Slugfest Over Delaware Valley

ASTON, Pa. - The Immaculata University baseball team racked up 16 runs on 15 hits to pace Delaware Valley in a non-conference slugfest Wednesday afternoon to pick up its first win of the 2019 season, 16-11. The Mighty Mac bats were in sync from the first pitch, plating nine runs in the first three innings as five Macs finished with multi-hit days led by three each from Cameron Delisle, Richard Fontanillas and Corey Pezak. Delisle led the Macs with four runs scored in the effort, while Pezak picked up his first collegiate hits with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with a pair of runs driven in.

Billy Manzo picked up his first win of the season on the mound with two and two-thirds innings of work and three strikeouts. Gabe Hollenbach, Brady Fidler and Zach Smiley each provided scoreless innings of relief to close out the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-After Manzo posted a scoreless top of the first, the Macs went right to work as the first three baserunners reached capped off by a Fontanillas bunt single and an error on the throw that went up the line to plate Joey Sacco with the game's first run. Pezak was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to plate the third IU run of the inning as all nine Macs went to the plate in the opening frame.
-Following a leadoff walk to Sacco in the second, Fontanillas ripped a triple to right-center and Delisle reached on an infield hit to extend the IU lead to five. Ty Esenwein followed with a sac fly to center and Pezak lined a run-scoring single back through the middle to put the Macs up 8-0 after two.
-Delaware Valley battled back with three in the top of the third, but the Macs matched that frame with three in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a run-scoring double to left-center off the bat of Sacco.
-Kyle Hannon delivered a two-bagger down the left field line to score Chris Szekeres and Sacco drove in his second run of the day with a sac fly in the fifth, extending the IU lead to 15-3 after five.
-The Aggies continued to fight back with three more runs in the sixth, but a two-out, run scoring triple to the gap in left-center off the bat of Esenwein kept the Macs in control.
-Delaware Valley rallied for three in the ninth to get within five, but Smiley came on in relief in the middle of the last frame to shut the door for the Macs' first victory of 2019.
-Chris Huyette, Anthony Yarson and Greg Lambert all made their collegiate debuts on the mound in relief for the Macs, totaling two innings and yielding only two earned runs.
