LATROBE, Pa.- Seeking to bounce back following a tough loss at the hands of host Saint Vincent College a night ago, the Immaculata men's basketball team returned to action on Sunday afternoon opposite non-conference foe Misericordia. Despite trailing early in the contest, Immaculata rallied to earn the 84-75 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Misericordia opened the contest on a 16-7 run over the first eight minutes of play before Immaculata began to battle back over the remaining 12 minutes of play. Over the next five minutes of action Immaculata found itself on a 18-7 run of its own to claim its first lead of the game at 25-23 with seven minutes to play in the first half. The two sides traded baskets over the remainder of the first half before a late run by Immaculata gave the Macs a 35-30 advantage at the halftime break.
In the first three minutes of the second half, Immaculata opened the half with a 7-2 run to claim a 42 -34 lead with 17:23 to play. The Macs continued to play well offensively extending its lead to as many as 15 points with just under seven minutes to play in regulation en route to the 84-75 victory.
Asa Kitchen led the Macs in scoring with a team-high 20 points while
Tyler Tillery dropped in 16 points of his own. Tillery also registered 13 rebounds both of which were career highs for the freshman forward. McCullough and Dao also ended the afternoon in double figures ending with 15 and 10, respectively.
As a team, Immaculata shot 48.5 % from the field and 42.1 % from three-point range. Immaculata also shot well from the line once again shooting 85.7% from the stripe in the victory.
Tony Harding led the way in scoring for Misericordia posting a game-high 27 points for the Cougars in the setback.
After recording a pair of double-doubles over the weekend, Tillery was the lone Mighty Mac selected to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of play on Sunday afternoon.
Immaculata will be back in action on Monday, January 6 against Haverford with that contest set to begin at 8 pm.
