IMMACULATA, Pa – Immaculata fell short against Moravian by the score of 83-70 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
Brandon McCullough led the way for the Mighty Macs (2-7) with a career-high 29 points and added four steals. McCullough shot 63-percent (12-for-19) from the field and made five triples in the contest. Jordan Ambrose joined him in double figures and scored 11 points.
CJ Barnes paced Moravian (6-4) with 23 points while Matt O'Connor added 20 points for the Greyhounds. Moravian shot 64-percent from the field in the second half to hold on for the win.
Both teams traded baskets during the early going of the game as the Macs took a 10-8 lead following a three by McCullough with 15:32 remaining in the first half.
The Mighty Macs built its biggest lead of the game following a 7-2 spurt by the visitors. Ambrose capped the run with a jumper as Immaculata held a 21-12 lead at the nine-minute mark. Immaculata used its defense to hold a lead at intermission.
The Macs scored eight points off turnovers in the first half as they trailed 35-32 at intermission. IU held the opposition to 5-for-16 from three in the first half but the Greyhounds went on an 11-3 run to close the half.
Immaculata would tie the at 37 in the opening minutes of the second half but was never able to regain the lead. The Greyhounds couldn't be slowed down over the final 20 minutes as they built as much as an 18-point lead in the win.
Steven Dao scored eight points off the bench for the Macs while Jake Strycharz pulled in a career-best nine rebounds and chipped in with seven points. The Mighty Macs tied its season-best with 13 steals on the defensive end.
Immaculata travels to Latrobe, Pennsylvania over Christmas break to face Saint Vincent College on December 28th at 6 p.m.
