HARRISBURG, Pa.-The Immaculata men's basketball team took to the road on Wednesday evening for a non-conference road test to open the season at Penn State-Harrisburg. Despite outscoring its hosts in the second half of play, Immaculata fell by a final of 87-76 to open the 2019-20 season.
Jordan Ambrose led three Mighty Macs in double figures posting a game-high 26 points while
Asa Kitchen scored 15 points and
Jeffrey Powell-Young added 13 points of his own in the setback. Powell-Young tied his career-high this evening matching his 13-point performance from February of the 2017-18 season.
Ambrose sank a game-high five three-points on 5-of-11 shooting from deep while going a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity stripe to lead the Mighty Macs on Wednesday evening. Ambrose's 26-point showing is also just three points shy of tying his career-high, which he set a season ago with 29 points against Wesley.
 In his collegiate debut,
Steven Dao also played well as he registered nine points while also tying for the team-high in rebounds with four rebounds.
Immaculata raced out to an early 8-2 lead in the first three minutes of play, which the Macs retained until just under the 15-minute mark of the first half when Penn State-Harrisburg claimed its first lead of the game at 9-8.
Ambrose answered back quickly with a three-pointer to restore a slim lead for the Macs before Penn State went on an 8-0 run to claim a 17-11 lead with just over 11 minutes to play in the half, which the Nittany Lions would never relinquish. Following this mid-half run, Penn State continued to score the ball well to carry a 40-26 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half of play, Immaculata outscored its hosts by a 50-47 margin to trim the deficit, however, it was not enough to avoid the season-opening setback. The two sides traded baskets for much of the half but it was a series of short runs from Immaculata, which enabled the Macs to outscore their hosts in the half and trim the deficit to just 11 at the conclusion of the contest.
Zegary Scott III led six Penn State players in double-figures with a team-high 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field while also going a perfect 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
As a team, Immaculata was 31-of-71 (43.7 %) from the field while going 8-for-26 (30.8 %) from three-point land. The Mighty Macs also went 6-of-8 (75.0 %) from the charity stripe in the setback.
As a unit, Penn State was 30-of-65 (53.8 %) from the field while also shooting 6-of-16 (37.5 %) from deep. The Nittany Lions also shot a solid 73.3 % (11-of-15) from the line while also ending the contest with a +10 edge in rebounding (42-32) and a slim +4 edge in turnovers (15-11).
Immaculata will look to have a short memory as the Mighty Macs will be back in action on Saturday afternoon opposite another Regional power in Arcadia when the Knights visit Alumnae Hall for the Macs home opener beginning at 1 p.m.
