Strong First Half Leads Field Hockey Past Neumann in High-Scoring Affair

ASTON, Pa.- On the heels of a hard fought loss to DeSales in a torrential downpour on Wednesday evening, the Immaculata University field hockey team was back in action on Saturday to face a conference foe in the Neumann Knights. Immaculata used a strong first half to hold on for a narrow 4-3 victory over rival Neumann.

How it Happened:
  • In the 10th minute, Layne Kennedy found the back of the net off an assist from Macy Green, which opened the scoring before Green scored a goal of her own just moments later to give the Macs a commanding 2-0 lead heading to the second quarter of play.
  • In the second quarter, Neumann answered back with a goal of its own before Shannon Lozier found the back of the net during the 26th minute off an assist from Maddy Edwards, which extended the lead to 3-1 heading to the halftime break.
  • Neumann opened the scoring in the third quarter again before Lozier and Edwards connected once more to give the Macs a commanding 4-2 lead, which would prove vital in the fourth quarter of play.
  • During the fourth and final quarter of play, Neumann found the back of the cage once more with just over three minutes to play in regulation and continued to threaten throughout the balance of the contest. However, the Immaculata defense was up to the task of shutting down Neumann to earn the 4-3 victory.
