IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata softball team (22-14, 15-5 CSAC) earned an impressive sweep over Neumann (19-14, 15-5 CSAC) on Friday afternoon for Senior Day in Colonial States Athletic Conference play by scores of 5-1 and 3-0. The Macs are now in a third place tie with Neumann heading into the final day of regular season play tomorrow at Rosemont.
In the first game, freshman
Emma Bischoff was outstanding in a complete game effort with eight strikeouts and sophomore
Ashley Rey got the 100
th hit of her career with a pair of home runs.
In game two, junior
Jessica Bormann picked up where Bischoff left off with a two-hit shutout and sophomore
Kayla Sponsel supplied all the offense with a two-run home run in a 3-0 victory.
GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Both pitchers were excellent early on as they cruised through the first three innings scoreless
-After Bischoff worked around a single in the fourth, the Macs got on the board in a big way in the bottom of the inning
-Rey led off with her first of two home runs, and singles by senior
Annemarie Bartow and sophomore
Michaela Petito put two on with one out. Freshman
Casey Manera came on as a pinch hitter and singled home Bartow, and Bischoff helped herself in the next at bat with a two-run single that put the macs up 4-0
-Bischoff retired the side in the order in the fifth as she continued to cruise and Rey notched the 100
th hit of her career with a solo home run to left field and a 5-0 lead
-A seventh inning solo home run ended the shutout but the Macs finished off the 5-1 victory

GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Bormann picked up where Bischoff left off with consecutive shutout innings as she allowed just one hit over the first two innings
-The Macs got on the board in the second as sophomore
Kayla Sponsel sent one over the fence to center field for a two-run home run to put the Macs back in front
-After Bormann retired the side in order in the third and fourth innings, the Macs loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the fourth and Bartow delivered an RBI single up the middle to make it 3-0
-Bormann stayed in the groove the rest of the game. She allowed a lead off single in the fifth but then retired the final nine hitters of the game to finish off a two-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory
