Macs Undone By Defensive Miscues Against Drew

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Immaculata University baseball team got six strong innings from starting pitcher Gabe Hollenbach, but could not overcome several late errors as Drew came away with a 10-3 victory Monday afternoon. Tyler Kmiec lifted a two-run home run in the fourth to pace the Macs' lineup, while Justin Dempsey and Tom Prato picked up two hits apiece on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Hollenbach was very efficient from the first pitch Monday, holding the Rangers scoreless over the first five innings. The righty stranded a runner at third in the first, and rolled double play balls in the second and fourth innings to keep Drew off the board early.
-The Macs' offense was slow from the start, as Greyson Avots was the lone baserunner in the first three innings via a two-out walk.
-In the bottom of the fourth, Dempsey broke through with IU's first hit of the day and Kmiec followed with a two-run blast to left-center, giving the Macs an early two-run advantage.
-The Rangers responded in the top of the sixth with a pair of unearned runs to knot the contest at two, chasing Hollenbach from the game.
-In the top of the seventh, Drew manufactured the go-ahead run after a leadoff double came around to score on a sacrifice fly to right.
-After Drew tacked on a two-out insurance run in the eighth, making it a 4-2 game, the Rangers broke the game open with six runs on just two hits in the frame. The Macs committed four errors in the inning, leading to six unearned runs to come across.
-The Macs struggled to piece anything together off of Drew reliever Mike Mancuso, who scattered five hits over three innings of work while allowing one run in the ninth on a Greyson Avots sac fly.
