Verrecchia Nets Three in Macs' Setback to Cabrini

IMMACULATA, Pa. - Senior Hannah Verrecchia logged her fourth hat trick of the season for the Immaculata University women's lacrosse team Wednesday night, but the Macs came up short to visiting Cabrini (4-5, 3-0 CSAC) at Draper Walsh Stadium, 24-11. Freshman Maura Murray led IU with four points on the night (2G, 2A).

Senior Rosemarie Reitman and sophomore Layne Kennedy netted two goals apiece in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Cabrini opened the scoring on Wednesday night on an unassisted goal from Avery Murphy, but IU's Maura Murray was quick to provide the equalizer just 20 seconds later with the help of an assist from Nicole Dominick.
-The Cavaliers would respond with an 8-0 scoring run over the next five minutes, as Murphy and Liz Hoeffner each netted three goals to extend the Cabrini lead to eight early on.
-IU battled back with three-straight of its own - two coming from Hannah Verrecchia and the third from Brittany Whaley - to get the Macs within five.
-However, the Cavaliers went on to close the half with four unanswered tallies, taking a 16-6 advantage into the break.
-The Macs fought to stay even with the Cavaliers in the second half, as the goal differential was only three in the final 30 minutes of regulation. However, IU was unable to bridge the gap in the long run, despite two second-half goals apiece from Layne Kennedy and Rosemarie Reitman.
