IMMACULATA, Pa. - Senior
Rosemarie Reitman and sophomore
Layne Kennedy each reached the 100 career points plateau in the Immaculata University women's lacrosse team's 20-7 win over visiting Keystone Saturday at Draper Walsh Stadium. The win extends the Macs' win streak to four with the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opening victory.
Kennedy and freshman Maura Murray paced the Macs' offense with four goals each. Reitman and senior
Hannah Verrecchia both pitched in hat tricks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Macs wasted no time getting on the board early and often in Saturday's contest, breaking out for seven unanswered goals in the first 11 minutes of the game. Anna DiDonato opened the scoring just two minutes in - and later scored at the ten-minute mark - before five different scorers found the back of the net, including freshman Jamy Krewson.
-After a a Keytone goal to break the shutout,
Layne Kennedy answered with tallies on back-to-back possessions to stretch the lead back out to eight.
-The Macs closed the first half with three goals in the final three minutes, led by two from Maura Murray and a lone tally from
Hannah Verrecchia. Murray's completed her first-half hat trick.
-Just over two minutes into the second half, Kennedy found the back of the net for her third goal of the afternoon, eclipsing the 100 career point mark in the process.
-Verrecchia and
Brittany Whaley netted consecutive goals to make it a ten-goal lead with 16 minutes to play at 15-5.
-With just under nine minutes in regulation, Reitman fired a shot on goal that beat the goalie, marking her 100th career point in her senior season. The senior also netted the Macs' 20th goal in the final minute of play.
-Goalie
Emily Schumann made six saves and allowed only seven goals to pick up her fourth win of the season.
KEY TEAM STATS
-The Macs outshot the Giants, 50-18, and the held the advantage in shots on goal, 31-13.
-IU forced Keystone into 25 turnovers, while only committing 19 of its own.
-Immaculata was successful on 12-of-16 clear attempts.
-IU held advantages in both draw controls (17-11) and ground balls (16-13).
