Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Macs Hang on For Third-Straight Over Eastern, 14-12

IMMACULATA, Pa. - Nicole Dominick netted the game-winning goal with under two minutes left in regulation and Hannah Verrecchia netted a team-high four goals to lift the Immaculata University women's lacrosse team to a 14-12 non-conference win over Eastern Wednesday night. The victory extends the Macs' current win streak to three in the early going of the 2018 season, as IU has now scored at least 13 goals in its last three contests after scoring only four in the season-opener on Feb. 27.

Layne Kennedy and Rosemarie Reitman each added two tallies in the effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Macs and Eagles were scoreless for the first five minutes Wednesday night, until Reitman provided the first goal of the game at the 24:44 mark, which was followed by Verrecchia's first tally of the night just 15 seconds later.
-The Eagles answered with their first goal of the game to cut the deficit in half, but Verrecchia and Nicole Dominick produced back-to-back scores to make it a 4-1 advantage.
-Eastern goals from Julie Haggan and Liz Brennan made it a one-possession game yet again with ten minutes left in the first half, sparking three unanswered goals from the Macs. Verrecchia completed her hat trick, and Anna DiDonato and Layne Kennedy all netted goals within three-and-a-half minutes of each other to stretch the IU lead back out to four.
-Verrecchia would go on to add her fourth goal of the night at the 3:41 mark of the first half as the Macs took a four-goal lead into the break.
-Despite an early score from Maura Murray in the opening minutes of the second half, Eastern rallied to post four consecutive goals to knot the game at ten with just over ten minutes remaining.
-Layne and Olivia Carter alternated goals with Haggan and Brennan down the stretch, as the game remained tied at 12 with 1:51 left in the game.
-As the two sides entered the tense, final 90 seconds on a cold, windy night at Draper Walsh Stadium, Dominick buried the go-ahead goal for the Macs, and Brittany Whaley followed with an insurance tally with 13 seconds remaining, sealing IU's third-straight win.
