SALISBURY, Md.- The Mighty Macs (2-2) played the middle doubleheader of their six-game spring break trip to Maryland, and after getting clipped, 4-2, in the first game to No. 19 Lynchburg (10-2), the Mighty Macs tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, and won it in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run walk-off home run by senior shortstop Annemarie Bartow to give the Macs a 9-8 victory.
 
Today's doubleheader was the first in the Sea Gull Classic, and the Mighty Macs will conclude play against the host, Salisbury University at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
 
GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Macs had base runners by base hit in the first two innings as sophomore Michaela Petito singled with one out, and again in the second as sophomore Emily Mesey doubled with one out, but they were stranded in scoring position each time
-On the other side, Petito worked around two first inning hits to keep it scoreless after one, but the Hornets converted a lead-off triple into a run in the second
-The Macs wasted no time tying it as sophomore Abigail Carter singled with one out, and came around to score on an error by the shortstop to knot it at 1-1
-However, the Hornets scored two runs on a two-run homer in the third which gave them the lead for good
-The game stayed 3-1 Hornets into the sixth when freshman Keani Hindle hit a one-out double and Mesey brought her home with a two-out double to make it 3-2
-The Hornets added a key insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single, but the Macs rallied to put two on with two outs in the seventh, however, a strikeout ended it and gave Lynchburg the win

GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
-In game two, freshman Emma Bischoff got the start after twirling a shutout on Thursday, but the Hornets got to her by scoring three in the first three innings to race out to a 3-0 lead through two and a half
-The Macs cut into the deficit with two of their own in the bottom of the third.  An RBI single by Carter scored Bischoff and Petito scored Carter to cut it to 3-2
-Bischoff got a shutdown inning in the top of the fourth, and the Macs took their first lead in the bottom of the frame.  An RBI triple by Mesey brought in Bartow and with two outs, sophomore Laura DiLucia singled to score Mesey to put IU up 4-3
-Lynchburg took the lead back in the top of the fifth with a four-run frame to go out front 7-4 and end Bischoff's day
-The Macs picked up a couple runs in the bottom of the fifth to again cut into the deficit.  IU loaded the bases with nobody out, and Mesey and Bormann each hit RBI single to cut the deficit to 7-6
-Bormann then did some stout relief work, holding the Hornets scoreless in the sixth and seventh to send it to the bottom of the seventh with IU still trialing by a run
-Bormann helped her own cause by singling, moving to second on a sacrifice bunt, and following a ground out, Petito tied the game with a triple
-In extra innings with the international tiebreaker putting a runner at second with nobody out, Lynchburg scored a two out run to go up 8-7
-In the IU half of the inning, already with three hits, Bartow stepped to the plate with a runner on first base and one out and delivered the walk-off home run for the victory
