EDWARDSVILLE, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team (1-1) shook off an early deficit and pulled away for a big 21-9 road non-conference victory on Thursday afternoon at Wilkes (0-1). After falling behind 4-2 through the first 13 minutes, the Macs ripped off nine of the next ten to take a lead they'd never let go.
Sophomore
Layne Kennedy had a huge day with seven goals and one assist, while freshman Maura Murray scored the first six goals of her career and added one assist. Seniors
Hannah Verrecchia (three goals),
Brittany Whaley (one goal), and
Nicole Dominick (one goal) all had four assists. Freshman Jamy Krewson, senior
Olivia Carter, and junior Anna DiDonato each got on the board as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED

-Wilkes scored the first of three straight 40 seconds later to put them back in front 4-2 through the opening 13 minutes
-IU then scored three straight of their own behind Krewson's first career tally and the first two of the day by Kennedy to make it 5-4 with 13 minutes remaining
-Following a Wilkes goal to tie the game at 5-5, the Macs left no doubt by scoring five straight to close out the half, two by Murray and Verrecchia, and one by Dominick to lead 10-5 at the break
-Kennedy scored her third of the day to start the second half but Wilkes got two back to trim the IU lead to 11-7 with 23 minutes remaining
-Kennedy ensured the Macs would stay comfortably in front by scoring two goals just 40 seconds apart, while Murray and DiDonato each added another to put the Macs up 15-7
-Wilkes scored two of the next three around a Murray tally to make it 16-9, but five straight IU goals to close the game finished out the game and an IU victory
