IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Mighty Mac women's basketball team played host to Cabrini (22-2, 15-0 CSAC) on Wednesday night on Play4Kay Night at Alumnae Hall in the 2017-18 season finale, and the Macs stumbled out of the gates and were unable to recover in a 70-41 defeat to the Cavaliers. Immaculata finished up the season at 7-18 overall and 6-10 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) as they missed the postseason.
Tonight also marked the final games for
Gina Cocci and
Dia Veneziano in their Immaculata careers as they were honored prior to the game with a Senior Night ceremony.
In the game, freshman
Theresa Kearney led the way with 13 points for IU.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Mighty Macs struggled in the opening period as they missed all 15 of their shot attempts and got on the board via three free throws, but Cabrini took advantage and took a 14-3 lead into the second quarter
-The Macs showed some fight coming out of the quarter break by scoring the first five points to trim the deficit to six on a three pointer by Kearney and two free throws by freshman

-IU was able to hang around and keep the deficit between eight and ten points for most of the quarter, but Cabrini ran the lead up to 15 points and took a 35-21 lead into the locker room
-The Macs tried to stay in the game, but Cabrini kept them at arms' length. The Macs got as close as 13 points after a three pointer by Kearney and a free throw by Kohutka, but Cabrini closed the period with seven straight to take a 53-33 lead to the fourth quarter
-IU was unable to cut into the deficit as Cabrini finished off the 29-point win

-The Mighty Macs struggled from the field at 14-for-54 (25.9%) while Cabrini was better at 26-for-66 (39.4%)
-Cabrini dropped six three pointers on 22 attempts and the Macs knocked down three in 19 attempts
-The Mighty Macs were outrebounded 50-36 and turned the ball over 21 times to just 15 for Cabrini
