Mighty Macs Make Late Charge But Come Up Short In 62-59 Loss At Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J.- The Mighty Mac women's basketball team (4-7) travelled to Rowan (7-4) for a tough road non-conference game, and they trailed for much of the game, but went on a late fourth quarter run to make it tight, however, their comeback attempt came up short in a 62-59 loss.
 
The Macs were led by 19 from sophomore Theresa Kearney, and sophomore Natalie Ayoub chipped in with 11 points and seven boards.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The first quarter was close early with the Macs taking the first lead at 3-0 on a triple by Kearney, but Rowan responded with five straight
-The game was tied at 6-6 and the Profs finished the quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 15-8 advantage to the second
-IU continued to battle in a tough spot on the road, keeping the game within arms' reach, getting the deficit as low as four, but the Profs finished the half with a nine point advantage at 32-23
-Rowan extended their lead for much of the third period, taking an advantage as large as 15 points, and it stood at 13 at 48-35 heading to the fourth
-The Mighty Macs cut it to a six point deficit at the midway point of the fourth on a layup by Kearney to cap a 13-6 run
-The Rowan lead grew back to 10 at 60-50 with 2:06 remaining, but the Macs touched off a run to make it tight at the end.  Senior Amber Ballinger hit a layup, Ayoub hit one, and Ballinger hit another herself to make it 60-56 with 44 seconds remaining
-Rowan made a pair of free throws, but Ayoub hit a jumper to make it 62-58 with 19 seconds to go.  Rowan missed a pair of free throws, but the Macs were unable to knock down a three and ended up losing 62-59
 
TEAM COMPARISON
-The Mighty Macs shot 20-for-46 (43.5%) from the field and the Profs were 21-for-61 (34.4%)
-The Macs knocked down 6-of-15 (40%) three pointers while Rowan was 4-for-14 (28.6%) from deep
-The Macs were an efficient 13-for-18 (72.2%) from the line while Rowan struggled at 16-for-28 (57.1%)
-The difference in the game was IU forced 21 turnovers, but they turned it over themselves 34 times
-IU held a 41-35 advantage in rebounds
