HOW IT HAPPENED
-The two sides began Saturday's match primarily battling for possession in the middle third before Neumann began to put together a few chances on net. The Macs went to their bench in the 27th minute which sparked an uptick in the offensive possessions.
Zachary Malcolm put a ball on net from the right edge that was stopped by the Neumann keeper but not controlled, as Staudenmayer was there to hammer it home from six yards out four minutes after entering the game.
-Six minutes later, the Knights were able to knot the game at one on a Nick Testa goal. The two sides went into the break deadlocked at one.
-Kalpokas faced a flurry of shots on net in the opening moments of the second half, but the Macs were able to flip the field in the 66th minute as Staudenmayer took the ball down the right side and stopped short of the end line to hit Case in stride at the top of the 18, who then offered a perfect heel pass to Ba and the freshman buried it to give IU the lead back.
-The Macs took their one-goal lead into the final five minutes of the match. but a Neumann corner kick resulted in a pair of headers - the second of which landed in the back of the net - to tie the game at two-all.
-After a Neumann red card in the first overtime period brought the Knights down to ten players on the field, the Macs continued their aggressive approach in the second overtime but were unable to get a quality chance on net. With a minute remaining, a Knight shot from inside the box deflected off Kalpokas, allowing the Knights to put the loose ball in the back of the net for the game-winner.
