Big Effort From The Bench Leads Macs To 83-61 Road Victory

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.- The Mighty Macs had a quick turn around after taking a road defeat at Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday as they travelled to Centenary (3-14, 1-10 CSAC) for another critical Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest, and the Macs (8-8) played well throughout on their way to an 83-61 victory to even their CSAC record at 5-5.

IU shot the ball well at 45% from the field, but they were 17-of-18 from the free throw line and 10-of-19 from the three point line to produce an efficient offense.

Sophomore Andre Allen built off his strong game on Saturday with a team-high 18 points on 6-of-6 shooting, including 4-for-4 from three point range in just 12 minutes of work.  Senior Matt Krewson was also productive off the bench with 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting as the IU bench produced 49 of the 83 points.

Freshman Brandon McCullough had 13 points and junior Mike Piekarski had 12.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Cyclones scored the first five of the game, but Piekarski hit a couple free throws and McCullough drilled a three to erase the only Centenary lead of the game
-The score was then tied again at 10-10, and with the Macs holding a 15-14 lead, they ran off an 8-1 run to increase their lead to eight at 23-15
-Allen and Krewson hit back-to-back threes and after a Centenary free throw, Allen hit a lay-up to put the Macs up eight
-Centenary got within two a handful of times before the break, but the Macs finished the half on a 10-2 run to take a 37-27 lead to the locker room
-Sophomore Stephan Savage had a lay-up followed by a Piekarski three, two Kitchen free throws, and a traditional three-point play by Krewson to finish the half strong
-The Cyclones trimmed the lead to eight points at 41-33 three minutes into the half, but a 7-0 IU spurt on the strength of a Piekarski triple, layup by sophomore Jordan Ambrose, and free throws by freshman Asa Kitchen put the Macs up 48-33
-Centenary got within nine points midway through the half, but again, the Macs ripped off a 7-0 run on back-to-back three pointers by Allen and a free throw by sophomore Josh Singleton to put the game out of reach at 62-46
-The Macs ran their lead up to 24 points at 83-59 en route to the victory
