Volleyball Picks Up 3-1 Win At Clarks Summit

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Immaculata University volleyball traveled to Clarks Summit Saturday morning in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play, and the Mighty Macs took the match from the Defenders, 3-1. Immaculata won the match 25-21, 18-25, 25-22, and 25-10.
 
Senior Arden Vizzard was the only Mighty Mac (6-7, 4-2 CSAC) with a double-double as she led the team with 15 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Olivia Zdradzinski had 30 assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set was even at 4-4 when Immaculata went on an 11-3 run to give the guests a 15-7 advantage. The Mighty Macs continued to hold an eight-point lead (18-10) as the Defenders began their comeback. Clarks Summit began with four-straight points, and climbed within three (20-17) of Immaculata. Clarks Summit continued to chip away and got within two, 23-21, as the set came to a close, but an error by the Defenders and a kill by junior Shelby Belk sealed the 25-21 win.
- The second set was equally tight as the lead kept changing hands in the early going, and Immaculata held a 10-8 lead on Clarks Summit. The Defenders then scored five-straight points to regain a 13-10 lead, and despite the Mighty Macs efforts, Clarks Summit kept the lead the rest of the set. The Defenders got ahead, 23-13, and the Mighty Macs won five-consecutive points to cut their deficit to 23-18. However, Clarks Summit won the next two points for the set.
- The Mighty Macs started the third set off strong taking a 10-2 lead on the Defenders as senior Gabrielle Guerrera had two service aces and senior Arden Vizzard had two kills during the run. Clarks Summit put together a 5-1 spurt that got the Defenders within four points (11-7). Immaculata led, 16-10, as Clarks Summit won six-straight points to even the set at 16-all. The Mighty Macs retook the lead, and led, 19-18, before winning four-straight points extending their advantage to 23-18. The Defenders didn't go down quietly cutting the margin to 23-21 and 24-22, but the Mighty Macs had a kill by Vizzard to secure the set, 25-22.
- After a 3-3 start to the fourth set, Immaculata won six-consecutive points taking a 9-3 advantage. Clarks Summit broke Immaculata's serve with its fourth point of the set, but the Mighty Macs recovered and went on a seven-point run that included three aces by Vizzard and two kills from Guerrera to extend their lead to 16-4. After the Defenders make the set 21-10, the Mighty Macs won the final four points for the match.  
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Kills: Vizzard had a team-best 15 digs. Guerrera made nine kills, and senior Rachael Rockefeller recorded six.
- Assists: Zdradzinski had 30 assists.
- Digs: Vizzard's 11 digs led the way. Freshman Sara Desmond made nine digs, while Zdradzinski had seven, and junior Madi Curley recorded six.
- Service Aces: Vizzard, Curley and Guerrera all made three aces against the Defenders.
- Blocks: Rockefeller had four total blocks (2 solo, 2 assisted), and senior Nicole Taylor had two assisted blocks.

- Immaculata hosts Centenary on Monday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. in a re-scheduled contest from Sept. 23.
