IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata volleyball capped its four-match season-opening home stand Thursday night with a 3-1 non-conference loss to Penn State Berks. After the Mighty Macs won the opening set, 25-21, the Nittany Lions came on to win three-straight sets (25-23, 25-14, 25-17) for the victory.

Gabrielle Guerrera had 11 kills to lead the Mighty Macs, while
Arden Vizzard posted a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs.
Tess Kieffer finished with six kills and two blocks.
Olivia Zdradzinski also recorded a double-double with 30 assists and 13 digs.
Molly Truitt paced the squad in both digs (22) and service aces (3).

The Mighty Macs (1-3) controlled the first set thanks to a six-point run that gave them a 16-8 lead midway thru the set. The Nittany Lions were able to get within two points (17-15), but Immaculata was able to stay in front with key points when it needed to score.

Immaculata started the second set with a 5-2 advantage, however, a seven-point run by Penn State Berks (2-2) quickly gave the visitors a 9-5 lead. The Nittany Lions maintained the lead until the Mighty Macs scored four consecutive points to tie the set at 20-all. Penn State Berks scored the next four points for set point, but Immaculata was able to hold them off while it made it 24-23.

Penn State Berks got out to early starts in the third and fourth sets, and Immaculata was not able to come back.

The Mighty Macs will be at Alvernia on Saturday taking on Washington (Md.) at noon followed by the host Crusaders at 2 p.m.
