Men's Tennis Falls On Senior Day To Summit, 6-3

IMMACULATA, Pa.- On Senior Day for the Immaculata men's tennis team (3-8, 2-4 CSAC), the Mighty Macs came out great in doubles play, but would fall in the match 6-3 to Summit (8-3, 5-0 CSAC) on Friday afternoon at the IU Tennis Courts.

The match was the final in the home career of junior Mark Hueber, who was honored before the match.

In doubles, the Mighty Macs took two of three matches to take control of the match early.  Juniors Stephen Smith and John Binner won a close match at the second position, 8-6, and freshman Dom Ramsden and junior Mark Hueber won easily in the third spot, 8-3.

In the first spot, sophomore Patrick Tierno and junior Michael Griffin III had a close battle, but fell 9-7.

The Mighty Macs were unable to carry over their momentum to singles play as Tierno was the only winner in the first position in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Hueber had a three set battle in the fifth spot, but eventually fell 7-6, 1-6, 1-6.

With the loss, IU has a slim chance remaining to make the postseason.  They need to win their final match, have Neumann lose their match to Marywood, and lose their match to Cabrini by either 8-1, 7-2, or 6-3 finals to win the tiebreaker and get the final spot.  They will finish up their 2016 regular season on Monday at Rosemont at 4 p.m.
