Immaculata Women Fall To Muhlenberg At Scotty Wood Tournament

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Immaculata women's basketball began play at the Scotty Wood Tournament with a 78-48 loss to host Muhlenberg Friday evening.
 
Tamyra Laws led the way for the Mighty Macs (0-2) with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. Laws was 7-for-10 from the free throw line, and she added three steals and two assists. Molly Gallagher had eight points and six rebounds, while Annie Kohutka chipped on six points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Gina Cocci also had six points for Immaculata.
 
After trailing by 14 points (21-7) with just inside two minutes to play in the first quarter, Immaculata scored seven straight points to trim its deficit in half, 21-15, with 51 seconds remaining. Muhlenberg would eventually take a 10-points lead (26-16) to end the quarter.
 
The Mules outscored the Mighty Macs, 13-4, during the second quarter, and held a 39-20 lead at intermission.
 
Muhlenberg (1-1) continued to extend its advantage during the next two quarters. Immaculata closed the gap to 19 (62-43) with 7:47 to play in the game after a Cocci three-point basket. The Mighty Macs were still within 19 (64-45) with 6:01 to go after Laws put in a layup. However, the Mules would push their lead to 32, 78-46, before winning by a 30-point margin.
 
Immaculata will take on Bryn Athyn at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the consolation game of the tournament.
