Rucci's Second Half Goal Gives IU 1-0 Road Victory

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.- The Mighty Mac women's soccer team (6-9, 6-3 CSAC) picked up a crucial 1-0 victory on Wednesday night over Gwynedd Mercy (7-5-2, 5-3 CSAC) in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play that moved the Macs closer to locking up the program's first CSAC playoff berth since 2013.  With a win or tie on Saturday or a loss or tie by Keystone, the Macs will clinch a playoff spot.
 
Currently, IU sits in fourth place in the conference with two games remaining, and the top six teams will qualify for the postseason.
 
Senior Paulina Rucci scored her first goal of the season in the 67th minute, which proved to be the game-winner on a corner by sophomore Carrie Quigley.
 
Junior Allie Tracey collected her second consecutive shutout with four saves, while the Macs outshot the Griffins 12-7.
 
The first half was extremely even with each team firing off four shots apiece, and play going back-and-forth.
 
The Macs took over in the second half, as they held an 8-3 advantage shots.  They cashed in on the huge opportunity in the 67th minute as Quigley served a ball into the box, and Rucci headed it home for the 1-0 lead.
 
The defense and Tracey took over from there to preserve the shutout.  The Griffins had a great chance late, but the shot went off the post as IU held on, 1-0.
 
The Macs will now head on the road to Marywood this Saturday looking to clinch a playoff berth at 3:30 p.m.
