Volleyball Wraps Up Action With 3-2 Win Against Kean

GLASSBORO, N.J. – Immaculata volleyball wrapped up the Rowan Invitational on Saturday afternoon going 1-1 for the day. The Mighty Macs began the day with a 3-1 loss to the host Profs, 25-16, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-17. Immaculata then came back and won a 3-2 match opposite Kean, 25-18, 15-25, 25-16, 10-25 and 15-11.
 
Immaculata improved to 3-2 overall this season, and finished the tournament with a 2-2 mark.

Arden Vizzard and Maranda Jones each posted double-doubles in both matches on Saturday. In the Rowan match, Vizzard led the team in both kills (10) and digs (15), and she paced the team once again against Kean with 14 kills and 15 digs. Maranda Jones dished out 25 assists and had 15 digs versus the Profs, and 32 assists and 11 digs against Kean.
 
In the opener with Rowan, Gabrielle Guerrera also recorded 10 kills. Shelby Belk had four blocks and six kills, and Molly Truitt made 11 digs.
 
Guerrera posted eight kills, three service aces and five digs in the Kean match. Belk and Tess Kieffer had seven kills each, and Belk followed with two blocks. Truitt dug 14 Kean attacks.
 
Kean had an 11-8 lead in the first set when an eight point run for Immaculata handed the Mighty Macs the 16-11 edge, and Immaculata never gave it away as it closed out the set 25-18.
 
In the second, the score was tied at 9-9 when Kean won seven of the next eight points to pull out 16-10, and cruised on to the win, 25-15.
 
The Mighty Macs grabbed the lead early in the third set, but Kean kept coming back. Immaculata led by just one point (15-14) before going on to win seven of the next eight and pull ahead, 22-15.
 
Kean took the fourth set behind an eight-point run that made the score 17-7, and eventually forced the deciding fifth set.
 
Kean won the first four points of the fifth set as Immaculata called what proved to be a crucial timeout. The Mighty Macs returned to the court reeling off six-straight points with four kills and two Guerrera aces. Kean kept the score close, and with Immaculata holding a slim 8-7 lead, the Mighty Macs scored three points to extend their lead to 11-7. Kean got no closer than three points as Immaculata sealed the match, 15-11.
 
Immaculata heads to Penn State Abington on Thursday, Sept. 10, for a 7 p.m. match.
