Box Score GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Immaculata University improved to 4-0 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) volleyball action Tuesday night as the Mighty Macs traveled to Gwynedd Mercy University and swept the Griffins, 3-0. Immaculata won the match with scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-21.
Reigning CSAC Player of the Week
Gabrielle Guerrera paced the Mighty Macs with nine kills while hitting .471 for the match.
Shelby Belk added seven kills, four service aces and two blocks.
Arden Vizzard and
Tess Kieffer both finished with five kills, and Vizzard made eight digs.
Maranda Jones handed out 22 assists, while
Madi Curley recorded six assists.
Molly Truitt registered eight digs to lead the team along with Vizzard, and Truitt also had three service aces.
Immaculata trailed in the early going of the first set, but a Vizzard kill started a five-point run for the Mighty Macs as they took a 12-7 lead. Immaculata never gave the lead away, and eventually scored the final four points of the set for the win.
The Mighty Macs used a 10-1 run in the middle of the second set to pull away from the Griffins, 22-11, for the victory in the middle set.
The third set was the closest, and the teams were tied at 13-all. Immaculata scored three straight to go ahead, 16-13, and Gwynedd Mercy (7-12, 4-2 CSAC) never took the lead back after that point. The Griffins did get within one (21-20) to force the Mighty Macs to call a timeout. Immaculata came out of the timeout with two points to set up match up, and after two Gwynedd Mercy points, the Mighty Macs sealed up the match with a Belk kill.
Immaculata (8-4, 4-0 CSAC) plays its final non-conference match on Thursday, Oct. 8, as the Mighty Macs host Penn State Abington at 7 p.m.
