Volleyball Clinches Home Playoff Game On Senior Day

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University volleyball came out on Saturday to celebrate Senior Day against Marywood University, and the Mighty Macs punched the fourth seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament with a sweep of the Pacers in the regular-season finale. The Mighty Macs won 25-19, 25-14 and 25-15.
 
The two teams will face off again on Tuesday, Nov. 3, in the CSAC Tournament quarterfinals as fourth-seeded Immaculata hosts fifth-seeded Marywood. The other quarterfinal will have third-seeded Keystone hosting sixth-seeded Notre Dame.
 
Immaculata ends the regular season with a 13-7 overall and 8-3 CSAC mark. Marywood enters the playoffs with an overall record of 8-16, 7-4 CSAC.
 
Gabrielle Guerrera recorded her first double-double of her career as she had 11 kills and 12 digs to go along with two service aces. Shelby Belk paced the Mighty Macs with 14 kills and four total blocks (2 solo). Arden Vizzard also posted a double with her performance of 13 kills and 10 digs.
 
Maranda Jones handed out 41 assists, and Molly Truitt led the defense with 14 digs. Tess Kieffer also made two blocks.
 
The Mighty Macs came out wanting to take care of business as Colleen Martin, playing in her final regular-season match as a Mighty Mac, served the first eight points of the match as Immaculata got in front 8-0 on Marywood.
 
The Pacers responded midway thru the match as what was a 12-4 Mighty Macs lead was cut to 12-10. Immaculata stayed ahead and Vizzard closed the first set with a kill.
 
Immaculata jumped out with a 7-3 lead in the second set, but Marywood was in the set until the end. With the score 19-14, Vizzard's kills gave the Mighty Macs their 20th point, and Truitt served the set home, 25-14.
 
The third set was back-and-forth for the first 10 points before Immaculata was able to string together four three-point rallies which eventually made the score 17-7. The Pacers cut the score to 19-13, but the Mighty Macs sealed the victory with six of the last eight points.
