Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa.- For the first time since 2009, the Immaculata men's soccer team will host a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) postseason game as they defeated Cairn (8-9-1, 4-5 CSAC) by a score of 2-1 on the strength of two goals by freshman
Alex Noel on Senior Day. The Macs (8-10, 6-3 CSAC) will enter the CSAC playoffs for the first time since 2012 as the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 seed Keystone on Tuesday night at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Seniors
Aaron Bramble,
Tyler Budgick,
Will Carr,
Mike Thompson, and
Joe Wier all played in the final regular season game of their careers at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Noel finished the regular season as the leading goal scorer with nine goals for the Mighty Macs with his two tallies today. He had four shots to lead the team as Immaculata had nine total.
Junior
Joe Lubonski made eight saves to get the win in the cage for IU.
The Macs got the scoring started immediately as Cairn committed a handball in the box and IU was awarded a penalty kick. Noel calmly stepped up and delivered his third PK goal of the season with a high shot to the middle of the cage for the 1-0 lead just 34 seconds into the game.
Cairn would then take over the pace of the game for much of the first half and scored the equalizer in the 13
th minute. Craig Kikendall sent a free kick into the box that Paul Franco got a head on to knot the score at 1-1, which is where it would stand going into the half.
In the second half, IU generated much more pressure and controlled play with a 6-4 advantage in shots and 6-1 in corners.
In the 64
th minute, sophomore
Ben Gialloreto sent a beautiful pass from the other side of midfield that took one bounce before Noel collected it and popped it over the goalie's head for his ninth goal of the season and a 2-1 Immaculata advantage.
From there, the Macs were able to hold off all Highlander attacks to win the game, 2-1, and clinch a home playoff contest.
Immaculata will shift their focus to the postseason, starting with No. 6 seed Keystone whom the Mighty Macs defeated 3-0 earlier this season at Draper Walsh Stadium. The game is expected to begin at 8 p.m. on Tuesday night.
