Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's basketball team completed their first-ever regular season sweep of Cabrini in team history on Saturday afternoon at Alumnae Hall with a 76-62 triumph over the Cavaliers (9-9, 6-5 CSAC). The Mighty Macs (9-8, 7-3 CSAC) had beaten the Cavaliers twice in the previous nine seasons, but they beat them in both contests this season and remain in a tie for second place.
Junior
Rodney Duncan had a great game with 22 points, four rebounds, three assists, and four steals, while going a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw stripe. As a team, the Mighty Macs went 22-for-27 (81.5%) from the line and shot 13-for-23 (56.5%) from the field in the second half as they outscored the Cavaliers 48-35 after the break.
Senior
Mamadou Diakite registered his eighth double-double of the season with 15 points and 15 rebounds, while junior
Ron Melton had nine points, six rebounds, and a team-high six assists. Sophomore
Roy Ferrell Jr. chipped in with nine points and sophomore
Mike Griffin hit three three's on his way to nine points.
Coming out of halftime, the Mighty Macs trailed 28-27 and continued to trail by one at 33-32 with 15 minutes remaining in the game. IU then ripped off a 12-2 run over the next 3:14 to take a lead that they never let go. Duncan started it with two free throws, and junior
Tony Calamaro (5 points) knocked down a free throw to make it 35-33. Diakite made a lay-up before Duncan knocked down a three after a Cabrini bucket to extend the IU lead to 40-35. Diakite and Duncan each added lay-ups to cap the run as the Mighty Macs led 44-35.
Cabrini had whittled the lead down to four points as each team exchanged free throws back-and-forth. Ferrell Jr. knocked down two free throws to go up 53-45 with 7:49 to go, and Griffin put the IU advantage into double digits at 56-45 with a three-ball.
Cabrini never got closer than six points the rest of the way as the Mighty Macs iced the game away at the line for the 76-62 victory.
The first half was very closely contested with the lead changing hands five times and neither team leading by more than five points.
The Mighty Macs will go on the road this Wednesday to Rosemont as they look to complete the sweep of the Ravens at 8 p.m.
