Men's Soccer Drops CSAC Opener, 3-2

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's men's soccer squad was unable to net the equalizer as it dropped its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener to visiting Rosemont College, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon.

The Mighty Macs begins the league slate with a 2-6-1 overall and 0-1-0 CSAC mark. The Ravens are now 2-6-0, 1-0-0 with the win.

Immaculata got behind early as Rosemont's Luke McIlvaine was able to gather a through ball from Kaushik Dhanyamraju and get behind the Mighty Macs defense and around the goalkeeper for the goal in the seventh minute.

The Ravens second goal of the afternoon came on a penalty kick from Robert Vetrano in the 28th minute.

The Mighty Macs were able to get one goal back just four minutes before halftime as Kyle Hiner's initial shot was saved by the Ravens' Max McDonald, but he was not able to control the ball. The loose ball rolled out to an incoming Luke Santoni, who buried it in the back of the net.

Rosemont added to its 2-1 halftime lead in the 65th minute on a penalty kick conversion once more, this time off the boot of McIlvaine.

Immaculata got back to within one goal in the 79th minute as Patrick Friend, standing just on the Mighty Macs' defensive end of midfield, sent a floater into the box for Kyle Jumalon. Jumalon settled the ball and shot it into the net.

The Mighty Macs pressured during the final minutes to tie the contest. Stephen Smith had what might have been the best opportunity for the equalizer with just under six seconds remaining in the game but McDonald was able to make the safe to preserve the win for Rosemont.

Immaculata edged Rosemont, 13-9, in shots and corner kicks, 9-3.

Mighty Macs' goalkeeper Joseph Lubonski finished with four saves. McDonald made six stops for the Ravens.

Immaculata will be at home on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m. hosting Neumann in CSAC action.
