Volleyball Splits Action With Rowan And Mount Saint Mary

GLASSBORO, N.J. – Immaculata University volleyball's winning streak was halted on Saturday morning as the visiting Mighty Macs dropped the first match of the day to the Rowan University Profs, 3-1. Immaculata (9-1) was able to rebound in the second match and defeat Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) by a score of 3-1.
 
The Profs (5-6) won the opening match by winning the first, third and fourth sets (25-23, 22-25, 25-21 and 25-22).
 
Jamie Rombach led the team with 12 kills and added seven digs against Rowan. Gabrielle Guerrera posted seven kills, and Stephanie Johler recorded six kills and four service aces. Brittany Thompson set up 19 kills for Immaculata while Maranda Jones handed out 16 assists and 13 digs.
 
Molly Truitt paced the back row with 15 digs, and Emily Swank recorded 14 digs. Arden Vizzard registered 12 digs and five kills.
 
Immaculata led 17-12 in the opening set, and Rowan came back to even the score at 21-21. The Profs had set point at 24-21 as the Mighty Macs called a time out. Immaculata was able to win the next two points to get it to 24-23, but Rowan secured the set on the next point.
 
The Mighty Macs trailed 9-4 in the second set before rattling off 14 of the next 15 points to take an 18-10 lead. Immaculata never trailed the rest of the way as they won 25-22.
 
The two squads were neck-and-neck in the third set up at 13-all when Rowan won 10-straight points to open its advantage to 23-13. Facing set point, the Mighty Macs were able to hold off the Profs by winning seven points to cut the margin to 24-21.
 
Immaculata led in the early going of the fourth set, but after Rowan tied the score at 5-5, the Profs never gave control back to the Mighty Macs.
 
Immaculata got back to its winning ways in the second match of the day defeating Mount Saint Mary, 3-1 (25-18, 25-5, 18-25, 25-16).
 
Vizzard paced the team with seven kills and added 11 digs. Johler added six kills, while Tess Kieffer and Rombach each had four kills. Jones recorded 13 assists. Swank led the team with 17 digs, and Truitt made 10.
 
In all three sets that it won, Immaculata controlled the action in the set from start to finish.
 
In the third set, the Mighty Macs and Knights were even at 15-15 when Mount Saint Mary won seven of eight points to take a 22-16 lead.
 
Immaculata returns home on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. hosting Ursinus.
