Immaculata Golf Completes Day One At NCAA Championship

DESTIN, Fla.
– The Immaculata University golf team making its first appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship sits in 40th place after the first round of the tournament with a score of 344. The Mighty Macs played the par-71, 6,854-yard Raven Golf Club on Tuesday. 
 
Sophomore Aaron Harper shot the Mighty Macs' low round for the afternoon with an 82. Harper sits in a tie of 141st individually out of 210 participants after the opening round. Senior Todd Boisvert was one stroke behind Harper with an 83, which places him in a tie for 155th. Senior Tim Eckert carded the team's third-best round of 88. Junior Peter Kotula signed for a 91, while freshman Bryan Missimer came in with a 92.
 
Host school Methodist University is leading the 41-team field with a two-over par 290. The Monarchs lead Transylvania which is in second after shooting a four-over 288 and Texas at Tyler which was five-over at 293 on the first day. Both Methodist and Texas-Tyler played The Link Golf Club on Tuesday which is a par-72, 6,636-yard course while Transylvania played the par-71 Raven course. Team standings are based on scores compared to par.
 
Methodist's Jeff Wells is the low individual after 18 holes with a three-under 69. Dennis Granath of St. John's (Minn.) is second after firing a two-under par 69 on The Raven course. In all, just six players in the field were below par on the first day.
 
Immaculata will tee off at 8:20 a.m. (CST) on Wednesday for the second round. The Mighty Macs will be playing The Links Golf Club.
 
Following the completion of 36 holes, the NCAA will cut the field to the top 15 teams and top six individuals, not on one of those teams. Those teams and individuals will play 36 holes over Thursday and Friday to crown a champion.
