Record Setting Tennis Season Ends At CSAC Championship

BOX SCORE

EASTON, Pa.
- The record-setting 2013 men's tennis season for Immaculata (11-5) came to an end on Saturday afternoon as they fell to the top-seeded Marywood Pacers (13-4) by a score of 5-0 in the CSAC Championship.  The Pacers got to the necessary five points before the other four matches were finished, which gave them the CSAC Men's Tennis Championship.

The 2013 season was an outstanding one for the Mighty Mac men's tennis program as they made their first playoff appearance as well as their first championship appearance.  Head Coach Scott McTigue said, “Our team was the perfect storm.  A great combination of dual sport senior athletes, a Player of the Year, and a freshman hockey player who played only one year of high school tennis.  This is an outstanding accomplishment for our team.  I'm a very proud coach.”

The Mighty Macs also set records for wins (11), CSAC wins (6), and consecutive victories (8).  The Mighty Macs got their first CSAC Player of the Year in sophomore Troy Donato and had every player recognized in year-end conference awards.

In this afternoon's match, the Mighty Macs dropped all three doubles matches to fall into an early hole.  In the first doubles, Donato and freshman Nicholas Coia fell 8-2.  In the second doubles, seniors T.J. Klinger and Joe Walker lost 8-1, while seniors Eric Schmidt and Todd Stokley fell 8-1 in the third doubles pairing.

Walker fell 6-1, 6-1 in the second singles position and Schmidt fell 6-0, 6-3 in the third singles position to end the championship match.
