MOOSIC, Pa. – For the first time in the eight-year program's history, the Immaculata University golf team captured the 2013 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship, and it earned the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship.
The Mighty Macs put together a day two round of 326, two shots lower than its opening round, and their two-day composite of 654 bested runner-up Cabrini College by eight strokes. Immaculata had three individuals finish in the Top 10 to lead the way for the team crown at Glenmaura National Golf Club.
"The guys have put many hours of hard work into preparing for this tournament," head coach
Tana Thomas said. "I couldn't be more proud of them. We will do our best to represent Immaculata, the CSAC and the team with honor and pride at the national championships in Florida."
Aaron Harper turned in another round of 80 on day two for a total of 160, which placed him third individually. Harper's third-place finish ties the mark for best individual finish by an Immaculata golfer in the conference championship. Zack Robie placed in a tied for third at the 2011 CSAC Championships, and Chris Ware finished in a tie for third at the 2009 championships. Harper's finish also earns him First Team All-CSAC honors.
Todd Boisvert fired an 82 on Saturday to finish in eighth place at 163 (81-82). Boisvert earned a spot on the Second Team All-CSAC for third time during his career, and his finish of eighth was his highest in a championship tournament.
Peter Kotula was one-shot better than yesterday, firing an 82 for a two-round total of 165 (83-83) to tie him for 10th place.
Tim Eckert finished in a tie for 12th with a composite score of 166 (84-82), two strokes better on Saturday than day one.
Bryan Missimer also came in with a lower round on day two, signing for an 83 for 14th place at 167 (84-83).
Immaculata head coach
Tana Thomas earned CSAC Coach of the Year honors for the third time during her tenure. She received the conference's highest honor for a coach in 2009 and 2010.
Tim Eckert was honored on the CSAC Sportsmanship Team.
Cabrini (662) ranked second in the team standings. Centenary College (676), Marywood University (692) and Keystone College (696) finished out the top five.
Centenary's Steve Kluemper won the individual title with consecutive rounds of 75 for a total of 150, eight-over par for the tournament. Marywood's Paul Kania was second at 159 (77-82).
