Men's Tennis Surges Into CSAC Championship

, Pa.- The Immaculata men's tennis team trailed 4-2 to Baptist Bible halfway through singles play, but they won the final three matches with senior Joe Walker winning the last point to lift the Mighty Macs to a 5-4 victory and a spot in the CSAC Championship tomorrow afternoon against Marywood.  It will be the first appearance in the championship game for the Mighty Macs (11-4) in their first ever appearance in the postseason.
 
Immaculata came away with wins in four of the six singles after falling in two of the three doubles.  Along with Walker, seniors Eric Schmidt, Todd Stokley, and T.J. Klinger accounted for all of the points in the semifinal victory. 
 
In doubles, Walker and Klinger won in the second spot in a tiebreaker by a score of 9-8 (7-5) to claim the only point for the Mighty Macs in doubles play.
 
Trailing 2-1 heading into singles play, Klinger won 6-4, 6-2 in the fifth spot, but the Defenders won in the fourth spot and in the first spot over sophomore Troy Donato in three sets to take a 4-2 advantage.
 
Schmidt then won in the third position in three sets by a score of 6-3, 6-7, 6-0 and Stokley won in the sixth spot 6-0, 6-2 to tie the team score at 4-4.
 
That's when Walker came up big with a three-set victory to send the Mighty Macs to the CSAC Championship.  Walker won 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 to seal the win.
 
Immaculata will now play the top-seeded Marywood Pacers at 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon in the CSAC Championship.  Marywood dealt Immaculata their only loss in conference play by a score of 7-2 on April 20th.  Donato and Klinger each won in their singles matches to get the Mighty Macs their two points.
