GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.- The Immaculata men's tennis team (9-1, 5-0 CSAC) topped Gwynedd-Mercy by a score of 9-0 on Monday afternoon, their third straight shutout win over an opponent and their eighth straight victory overall.
In doubles, Immaculata battled to get all three points. CSAC Player of the Week sophomore
Troy Donato and freshman Nicholas Coia needed an extra game to claim a win in the first doubles position by a score of 9-7. Seniors
T.J. Klinger and
Joe Walker won 8-3 in the second position while seniors
Eric Schmidt and
Todd Stokley were victorious by an 8-4 count in the third spot.
In singles, the Mighty Macs won four matches handily while the other two were closely contested with one going three sets. Klinger, in the fifth position, had a three-set battle and eventually came out on top by winning the tie break by a count of 13-11.
Coia also had himself a battle in the fourth position with a 6-4, 7-5 victory. Donato in the first position, and Schmidt in the third position, each won 6-1, 6-0 in their matches. Walker (No. 2 position) and Stokley (No. 6 position) each won 6-1, 6-2.
The men's tennis team will now host Lebanon Valley on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. for their final non-conference home match of the season.
