IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata University women's basketball team defeated Neumann, 60-45, in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Monday evening at Alumnae Hall. The Mighty Macs advance to the CSAC semifinals for the third-straight year with the victory.
The Mighty Macs (15-11) placed three players in double figures. Kelly Brown led all scorers with 20 points to go along with nine rebounds, and Leah Kuczynski registered a double-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds and added three blocks. Bridget Welz rounded out the trio registering 12 points, eight boards, and four assists.
Immaculata built a 14-5 lead over the first six and a half minutes of Monday's evening's contest and led as many as 13 points, 26-13, at the 6:43 minute mark. The Knights attempted to climb its way back outscoring Immaculata 8-6 in the final four minutes of the first half but the Mighty Macs held a 32-21 lead at the break.
Neumann opened the second half with a 13-4 run to cut their deficit and trailed by only two points, 36-34, with 13 minutes to play. A three-pointer by Neumann's Erica Marvel gave Neumann its first lead of the contest at the 12:42 minute mark which fueled a 7-3 run to put the Knights ahead by six points, 45-39. The Mighty Macs responded as Kuczynski scored seven of Immaculata's nine points to regain the lead, 48-45.
Kelly Brown would stretch the lead scoring six unanswered points with less than three minutes remaining as Immaculata put the game out of reach using a 6-0 run to seal the victory.
Bethany Humenik posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Neumann while Sami Borcky scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
Immaculata will travel to Baptist Bible on Wednesday night to take on the No. 2 seeded Defenders in the CSAC Semifinal round at 7 p.m.
