Volleyball Battles For 3-0 Win Opposite PSU Harrisburg

IMMACULATA, Pa.
– Immaculata University's volleyball squad battled to earn the 3-0 sweep of Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday night inside Alumnae Hall. The Mighty Macs won the match with set scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-22.

Andrea Okoro and Lindsey Silvestro each recorded four kills to lead the team. Tamara Dabady, Kathleen Haefner and Allison Lang had three kills apiece. Dabady led the Mighty Macs' block with four total blocks, and Alexandra Okoro had three blocks. Haefner also added 19 assists and eight digs. Brooke Schreffler made a team-best 12 digs. Courtney Sahm had five service aces.

Immaculata (3-4) quickly got behind 4-0 in the opening set before rallying to win eight of nine points, including six straight to lead 8-5. The Mighty Macs never gave up the lead the rest of the set. The Lions brought the score to 16-13, but the Mighty  Macs pulled away 23-14, and went on for the win.

Penn State Harrisburg (2-8) picked up the first two points of the second set, but Immaculata recorded seven consecutive points, including three of Sahm's aces during the stretch. However, the Lions won eight of the next 11 points to knot the score at 10-all. The score remained tied at 12-12 when Immaculata won four straight points to pull ahead, 16-12. Penn State Harrisburg rallied to within one point three times, the last with Immaculata ahead just 23-22. The Mighty Macs took the set, 25-22, as Silvestro had a kill and then capitalized on a Lions' attacking error.

The final set was a nail-biter throughout. The set featured 13 ties and six lead changes. The Mighty Macs did not take their first lead of the set until  7-6 as Lang put down a kill from Haefner's assist. The two teams traded points and neither pulled ahead by more than three points, as Penn State Harrisburg tied Immaculata for the final at 20-20. Haefner out down a kill to give the Mighty Macs the 21-20 edge, and Immaculata scored the next three points for the 24-20 lead. After the Lions made two points, the Mighty Macs closed out the match, 25-22.

Chidere Igwe led the Lions with eight kills. Madeline Daubert registered 12 assists, and Michelle Pellechia made 12 digs.

Immaculata begins Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Saturday hosting cedar crest at 11 a.m.
