Volleyball Earns Win, Splits Alvernia Tri-Match

, Pa. – Immaculata University's volleyball squad picked up its first win of the young season on Saturday morning sweeping Alvernia, 3-0. The Mighty Macs took the match by scores of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-15.

Immaculata ended up with a split in the tri-match after dropping the second match of the day to Delaware Valley, 3-0. The Aggies took that match from the Mighty Macs 25-23, 25-22 and 25-23.

Immaculata (1-4) was led to the win against Alvernia by a double-double from Kathleen Haefner with 25 assists and 17 digs. Brooke Schreffler also amassed double figures in digs with a team-leading 18 digs.

Allison Lang racked up a team-high nine kills while Tamara Dabady had seven kills. Haley Swearer smacked down six kills, and both Andrea Okoro and Lindsey Silvestro made five kills. Silvestro also led the squad with five blocks.

Alvernia's (5-4) Tori Beck amassed a double-double with 23 assists and 11 digs. Toni Maurer recorded a team-leading 25 digs, and Alyssa Soltis led the Crusaders with nine kills.

In the second match of the day against the Aggies, the Mighty Macs had a .214 team hitting percentage as they amassed 42 kills. Swearer totaled a team-best nine kills and also had nine digs. Okoro, Dabady and Silvestro all had seven kills apiece.

Haefner set up 34 of Immaculata's kills while also having five kills of her own. Schreffler again led the squad with 18 digs, and Courtney Sahm added 10 digs against Delaware Valley.

Delaware Valley (6-3) was led by two players with 12 kills apiece in Gina Page and Janel Gluch. Destinee Horning registered 18 digs, and Crystal Ronan had 33 assists.

Immaculata returns home to Alumnae Hall on Tuesday night hosting Penn State Abington at 7 p.m.
