Men's Tennis Picks Up Win Against Rosemont

IMMACULATA, Pa.
– Immaculata University's men's tennis team picked up a Colonial States Athletic Conference win against Rosemont College, 8-1, on Wednesday afternoon at the IU Tennis Courts.

Immaculata swept doubles play and won the final five singles positions for the victory to improve to 1-6 overall and 1-1 in the CSAC. Rosemont slips to 1-4, 0-2 in the league.

Nick Tarlecki and Demetrios Vlahos defeated Ron Vogelei and Patrick McElroy, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles while Eric Schmidt and Chris Conlan won at No. 2 doubles, 8-0, against Dan Gershman and Jairo Colon. Immaculata won the third doubles points by default.

Vlahos, Schmidt and Conlan then all picked up their second win of the afternoon in singles action. Vlahos defeated McElroy at second singles, 6-2, 6-4. Schmidt was a 6-1, 6-1 winner against Gershman at No. 3 singles, and Conlan defeated Colon at the fourth spot, 6-1, 6-0. The Mighty Macs also picked up wins by default at the fifth and sixth singles positions.

Tarlecki, playing No. 1 singles for Immaculata, forced his match against Vogelei into a third-set tiebreaker. Vogelei claimed the opening set, 6-4, but Tarlecki was able to win the second set, 6-2, to force the tie-breaker. However, Vogelei pulled out the win, 10-7.

Immaculata continues league play hosting Neumann on Saturday at 12 p.m.
