CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Immaculata University's men's tennis squad fell in its Colonial States Athletic Conference opener on Saturday afternoon to Baptist Bible College, 9-0, at the Birchwood Tennis Club.
Immaculata's (0-6, 0-1 CSAC) top two doubles team both lost 8-2. Demetrios Vlahos and partner Eric Schmidt fell to Ryne Davies and Aaron Hixson at the top flight while Chris Conlan and T.J. Klinger were defeated at the second spot by Caleb Evans and Matt Benjamin. The Mighty Macs' final doubles duo of Todd Stokley and Chad Mascitelli were downed at No. 3, 8-1, by Luke Williams and Ben Odom.
After dropping the first set (6-2) at fourth singles, Klinger battled back in the second set against Benjamin, but didn't have enough to force a tie-breaker, falling 7-5. At the other singles positions, Vlahos was defeated at No. 1 by Davies, 6-1, 6-2, Schmidt fell to Evans at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3, and Conlan fell 6-1, 6-1 to Hixson at third singles. Michael Hermansen fell at No. 5 singles to Williams, 6-2, 6-2 while Stephen Beaver was defeated in the sixth spot by Odom, 6-3, 6-2.
Baptist Bible is 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the CSAC with the win.
Immaculata hosts Rosemont in a CSAC match on Wednesday afternoon beginning at 3:30 p.m.
