Men's Tennis Comes Up Short Against Alvernia

IMMACULATA, Pa.
– Immaculata University won two singles matches and one doubles point but fell to visiting Alvernia University, 6-3, in non-conference men's tennis play on Tuesday afternoon.

Chad Mascitelli and Todd Stokley won the Mighty Macs a doubles point as they picked up their first win as a pair at the third position, 8-6, against Howard Kelly and Nick Fortna. The Crusaders won the top two doubles flights as Jed Spangler and Kevin Brandt downed Immaculata's Demetrios Vlahos and Eric Schmidt, 8-1. Alvernia's Nathan Bauer and Ryan Ludwig won the second spot, 8-4, against Chris Conlan and T.J. Klinger.

Immaculata was able to win the one and four singles matches for its three points of the match. Vlahos had to fight for every point at No. 1 singles against Spangler, winning the first set in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (7-5), and was just shy of another tie-breaker in the second set, 7-5. Klinger picked up the other Mighty Macs point at No. 4 singles for his first collegiate singles win, 6-3, 6-4, against Kelly.

Alvernia had started singles winning the first four matches to be completed. Conlan went down to Brandt at third singles, 6-1, 6-3. Stokley, playing in the fifth position, lost to Ludwig, 6-2, 6-1, while Mascitelli fell to Fortna, 6-1, 6-1, at sixth singles.

Immaculata begins Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. traveling to Baptist Bible College.
